Steve Irwin Day 2008
21 November 2008

One man can make a difference. You can make a difference… and you did!

Steve Irwin Day 2008 was a huge success with thousands of fellow conservationists from around the world joining forces to remember the one and only Crocodile Hunter.

Avid Wildlife Warriors poured into Australia Zoo as early as 6am, enjoying a free sausage sizzle and stacks of entertainment and environmental activities in the car-park. And it wasn’t long before the gates were open and guests were soaking up the atmosphere of the biggest event in the Australia Zoo calendar.

The day was officially opened in the Crocoseum by Terri and Captain Paul Watson from the Sea Shepard Conservation Society.

Throughout the day, the Crocoseum turned into a Rock-o-seum with LIVE performances by Bindi and the Crocmen and internationally renowned band, Thirsty Merc! Wooo-hoo!

Between shows, guests were flat out like a lizard drinking enjoying a whole heap of fun activities including: didgeridoo making workshops, sheep shearing displays, sand sculpturing, reptile races, Ele pat competitions, fashion parades… and the list goes on!

The day also saw the official opening of the new Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors, Australian Wildlife Hospital. Invited guests and hospital ambassadors, including Khaliah Ali and Lisa Origliasso were amazed by the state of the art wildlife facility which was inspired Steve and his mum, Lyn Irwin.

The extraordinary day was ‘topped-off’ with the Steve Irwin Day Gala Dinner. Held in Brisbane, the black-tie event was a great success raising additional funds for Wildlife Warriors. Wooo-hoo!

Thank-you to everyone involved in Steve Irwin Day, Backyard Campout and Khaki Day activities. You dedication and commitment to wildlife and conservation has helped Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors to support various Whale Research projects around the world. You made a difference!

There were STACKS of ghoulish fun for little monsters, who had a WILD time trick-or-treating for FREE Croc Chocs, and playing stacks of spooky games, including mummy wrap, pumpkin head bowling and SCARE-crow making competitions.

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service donor mobile was out the front taking blood donations in exchange for a free lunch!

October 31 is also the Day for Daniel, so we had a special visit from the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and guests took the opportunity to get an Australia Zoo Child ID Card, which provides vital identification details in the case of a lost child.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the awesome Halloween costumes that filled the Zoo. Little super men, witches and goblins enjoyed the spectacular day filled with fun and entertainment and yummy Croc Chocs!

Zoo favourites!
10 October 2008

Australia Zoo is home to lots of amazing animals from all over the world. Asian Elephants, Sumatran Tigers and Blue and Gold Macaws are just a few incredible species that impress zoo goers. However, if it were a popularity contest; our gorgeous, adorable, cute baby animals at the Kids Zoo would win first prize!

On any given day, the Kids Zoo is a sea of smiling faces; kids and adults flock to see goats, lambs, calves and piglets. And who can blame them! The baby farm animals are absolutely irresistible. Even Zoo staff can’t keep away!

The clear favourites this week are six extremely gorgeous baby goats.  The cheeky six love the Zoo lifestyle and spend their days lapping up affection from adoring guests. Their favourite part of the day is, without a doubt, their bottle feed.  It is a feeding frenzy! And the best part about it- kids can get involved and help out.

Kids Zoo offers guests the opportunity to feed the baby animals. Plus kids are invited to take part in the daily animal encounter- Farmyard fun! The encounter gives kids the chance to get up close to all the Kids Zoo animals; help clean their enclosure, give them a brush, a bottle feed and lots of love and affection!

Next time you're at the Zoo- be sure to drop in and say hello to the gorgeous animals at the Kids Zoo!
